We Weigh What We Weigh

In this episode, I share my journey of self-discovery which is catalyzed when my sponsor reveals the powerful truth that we weigh what we weigh – whether we get on the scale or not – and I learned to take radical responsibility and break the cycle of denial.

I learned about the importance of recognizing denial when I heard the statement “We weigh what we weigh whether we get on the scale or not” from a sponsor in my early sobriety. Denial is a natural psychological coping mechanism and can be helpful in times of great stress or trauma, but when it is held on to for too long it can cause heavy consequences.

Denial can manifest in many ways such as making excuses, refusing to talk about the problem, blaming others, and repeating that there is no problem. To get out of denial, I can notice when I am blaming others, surround myself with people who support taking responsibility, think differently, tell the truth, forgive myself, and take small actionable steps.

In this episode, you will learn the following:
1. What is the power of denial and how can it be used to cope with difficult situations?
2. How can we recognize if we are in denial and how can we address it?
3. How can we take actionable steps to move from denial to acceptance?
