Will God Forgive Me? A Guide on Forgiveness

A survey done in 2020 revealed that 10.6% of adults live with feelings of guilt. These feelings were more associated with depression than things like sex or education.

Guilt is a very common emotion that everyone has felt at some point. If you are dealing with shameful feelings, you may be wondering will God forgive me?

God and forgiveness are closely linked in most people’s minds. This is not limited to those who are religious, as many people feel this way.

Keep reading to find out more regarding the question, will God forgive me?

What Is Forgiveness?

The definition of forgiveness is the action or the process of being forgiven or forgiving someone else. It is the conscious decision to release feelings of resentment.

This could be resentment towards a person or a situation in your life. If you want to be forgiven, you may want your wrongdoings or your mistakes to no longer be held against you.

Forgiveness is a feeling that humanity has recognized for as long as it has existed. Before the word forgiveness was ever created, this was something that people still understood and practiced.

Forgiveness is considered to be one of the vital emotions in healing your inner child and removing guilty feelings. Many people must face forgiveness if they want to overcome their past.

This is a very complicated thing to do, whether you need to forgive or be forgiven. In most cases, you will have to learn how to do both to achieve the results you are looking for.

Will God Forgive Me for Anything?

If you are on a path with your forgiveness coach, you may have asked the question, will God forgive me? This is something you may be confronting if you have shameful feelings you want to overcome.

The beautiful reality is that God is forgiving; he encompasses forgiveness and new beginnings. Whether you are religious or not, God is a forgiving God and treats everyone the same.

There may have been things that you have done that you don’t think you deserve forgiveness for. You may even believe that you deserve some kind of punishment for these things.

That is not how God‘s forgiveness works, however. God does not ask for a sacrifice or a punishment when giving forgiveness.

Why Do I Still Feel Guilty?

Something that many people struggle with is their guilty feelings. Even after you have asked for forgiveness, you may still be struggling with these feelings of guilt.

It is very possible to know that you have been forgiven and feel that forgiveness and yet still feel shame. This is often the result of you not being able to forgive yourself.

Guilt in and of itself is not a bad thing by any means. Small amounts of guilt are healthy and show that you are connected to your emotions and that you do not want to continue to make mistakes.

If you do not feel any guilt, this will show a lack of ability to change for the better. Without guilt, you would feel no reason to change your behavior so that you can achieve a better life.

But too much guilt can be stifling and can hold you back from becoming the person you need to be. It can keep you in that dark place in your mind where you are unable to move forward.

Guilt and shame are both things that you may struggle with, as they are similar emotions. It is not healthy to live with shame, and you want to find a way to let it go.

How Do I Stop Feeling Guilty?

If you have asked for forgiveness, but you still feel guilty, there are a few things you can do. The reality is that this is an emotion that you have to overcome, because it is the lack of forgiveness for yourself.

You have asked the question, will God forgive me, and you now know that he will. Now it is time that you learn how to forgive yourself because you can’t change the past.

Part of forgiving yourself is often related to working with a forgiveness coach. This type of coach will be able to help you discuss your shameful feelings and where they are rooted from.

Most of the time, you are not guilty just because you did something that you aren’t happy with. Guilt is often rooted in trauma or abuse that made you feel like you weren’t worthy of forgiveness.

It is often found in those with childhood trauma or relationship-related trauma. This is an emotional response that you will have to work through and learn how to suppress.

Your inner child is still in that dark place, and you have to show them that you do deserve forgiveness. That is the only way you will be able to break free and move forward.

Therapy and coaching can help you to do this, and better express your emotions. They will be able to help you identify past trauma so that you have a better understanding of how to work through your emotions.
